Does HIR install all PNP drivers from a driver search path or only the MASSSTORAGE driver?

HIR tries to find whatever drivers are neccessary to get the OS to boot.  The storage controller driver is critical for this.  When Windows boots for the first time after a HIR, it will find and load drivers for any additional PNP hardware.

 

The primary purpose of HIR is to ensure that the OS volume is bootable with the current hardware.  Therefore, HIR does not do much to install additional drivers for devices which are not required for the boot process.  The intent is that you run HIR when you are restoring from different hardware, and after booting, you install the remaining drivers (chipset, audio, video, network, etc) yourself.
