Moving Windows 7 from a hard disk partition to a (smaller) SSD drive

Hi, I'm having some trouble getting a Windows 7 image restored in such a way that Windows 7 boots and is happy on the new drive.  It boots, but says "Build 7500 Not Genuine" in the bottom right corner.  I definitely do have a license for this machine.  Here is the procedure used:

    - Boot off ShadowProtect 3.5 CD

    - Backup C: (90GB, 40GB used) to another internal hard drive

    - Resize the image to be smaller, creating the 'incremental' file

    - Restore the image on to the SSD, choosing "MBR from Image File" (but not hardware independent restore)

As mentioned, the SSD image boots, but then spends ages sorting itself out,  comes up with the 'non genuine' message and a 'windows 2000' like interface (that can't run anything, not even explorer.exe).

I solved it myself, I'll write it down in case it helps someone:

    - Make the image backup as usual, resize it as before

    - As a precaution, disconnect the old HDD so the machine can't see it

    - Hardware Independent Restore onto the new SSD, from the smaller 'incremental' file

    - Boot off the SSD.  In my case, Win 7 wanted to run a "repair", so I let it do that

    - Second boot came up clean and well.
