Hi there, We started selling Shadowprotect 3 months ago and support loves the product. Lately, we work a lot with laptops and some of the new ultramobiles have no built in CD-Drive. It would be really handy to be able to run the IT edition from a usb thumbdrive / flash drive, however I did not manage to get it going. I have a BartPE running from it, but found no info on the net on how to get ShadowProtect IT going on one. Any ideas? Cheers

Yes, we have quite a few ideas on that topic, however I am not at liberty, at this time, to disclose them.  :(  But, if you will be patient for just a little while, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the future direction of IT Edition.

I have been doing this for a while now.
I just copied the ?:\PROGRAMS\SHADOWPROTECTPE folder from the CD to my USB drive.

Then just run shadowprotectpe.exe from that folder and it works great.

 

This is in IT Edition version 3 anyway. 

Cheers, I meant booting into the Recovery Console IT edition from a USB stick, rather than the CD. Not actually running ot on a live system. Thanks for your reply though. Gathering from Nathans response, it might be a supported feature on version 4...? c u

You guessed right, I'm a senior engineer at StorageCraft.  I noticed several months ago that our forums were being neglected and so I decided that users might appreciate a bit more prompt, and accurate, response.  It's been a mixed blessing as my wife gets upset with me for checking the forum in the evenings and on weekends/holidays, but there have been some real benefits I think in the form of good feedback from the community and quick fix turnaround for some issues which were reported only through the forums.

There are times though when I slack off on forum participation for several consecutive days as it's really not part of my job (there's no measurable benefit to me, as far as my wallet goes, for doing this), especially when I have to produce a bunch of code in a short time, or when I get disillusioned by the lack of forum participation by other StorageCraft personnel (hint hint).

Is management even aware that this forum exists? Do they realize it is actually helping pay for their lunch money? :-) Loyal customers do not fall out of thin air you know. A high SNR forum with knowledgable and helpful staffers is worth the server's weight in gold.

Your wife is right though, but to compensate her for her patience I vote for an seemingly overdue pay raise. (and I kid you not)

 

For what it's worth, I also appreciate the availability of help and info through this forum. Support like this is hard to find. It's invaluable to think that you can run into an issue and search for others with the same problem on an "official" support site, or even actually hear from a developer within a day or two. Storagecraft management should definitely be regarding it as one of their selling features.

Thanks guys, I appreciate that.  I don't think that the forums were neglected in the past due to ignorance, because everyone here knows about 'em, but it's more likely that people were simply too busy to actively participate.  In retrospect they should have been called "Customer Forums" rather than "Support Forums" because early on that's all they were.  Most of the real support that occurred took place through submitted support tickets and phone calls.  But since these forums were, and are, called "Support Forums" customers naturally use them, often as a first resort, when they have problems or questions, and they just weren't getting timely answers.  I felt that this reflected very poorly upon our company, even though it wasn't actually intentional and I know that the people here are all working very hard, and IMHO everyone here deserves a raise.
