    Several disturbing issues

Am having several issues, one of which is especially disturbing.

My backup schedule is for a full backup one day, plus incrementals at 60 minute intervals on the others

Have installed Google Earth and the exe.shortcut is on the realtime desktop,as is an internet shortcut, also titled Google Earth.

The volume image from 5 subsequent backups however only shows the internet shortcut, but the exe. is missing.

This is not a big deal in itself, but the assumption would have to be that the backup snapshots ignore files with exactly the same name, even if they are different file types.

.But whatever, its certainly not confidence inspiring ,especially for backup software,Obviously backups must be 100% exact!

The correct logs are not being displayed-for example an incremental backup was made at 12pm,but the View Details Log shown is for 9am.

Apart from one full backup, the rest are set as incrementals, but at random times, they seem to result in differentials,in that they have the size of incrementals, but almost take as long as a full backup

No other app.would be running in the background taking power away.

I am unable to install ImageManager, despite several reinstalls ,cleanups etc-the message is always the same whether its installed from the disk or the start menu-

    "service already running."

The log says"Error: Unable to locate application file 'ImageManagerSetup.msI" .

From memory error 1602 also showed.

    Net 2 framework is installed.

I am using the latest version

Am seriously a fan of Shadow Protect, think its the best-so hope there are easy answers.

    Two more observations;

The Google exe.shortcut which wasn't imaged at all on the desktop, was backed up if moved to My Documents.

This has me wondering whether it was ignored on the desktop, because ShadowProtect assumed it was a duplicate of the Google internet shortcut

Ocassionaly, two virtual disks are created, when only one volume is being explored.

How are you verifiing that the google.exe shortcut is gone?  Google puts most desktop shortcuts in the "All Users\Desktop" folder and not the specific "User\Desktop" folder.  So if you are trying to verify the existence of the shortcut you must go to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop" folder.

    Re: Several disturbing issues

When incrementals take as long as a full backup, generally this means that the machine was not cleanly shutdown.  In other words, inorder for fast incremental tracking to continue, the computer must have a normal shutdown and bootup sequence.  If it was powered off abnormallh, rebooted with the reset button or blue-screened, then ShadowProtect loses its ability to track the incremental and it must do an incremental repair. This can take as long a full backup because it has to compare the current snapshot with the previous point in time. Once this occurs, however, then the following backups will be fast incrementals once again.

    Scooter,

Thank you for your reply and I am really pleased to say that you were correct regarding the Google exe.

I was verifying from the admin.desktop file-it was in the all users.

This was my main concern, even though I am still needing fixes for the other problems.

Regarding the incremental speed, I will carefully check this today.

For example, last night ,I definitely shut down quite normally, after several normal speed incrementals had been made.

This morning, for the first backup,a full backup was made.

However during that day some reset button reboots had been made

Hopefully you may be able to help regarding  the other anomalies,-especially not being  able to install ImageManager.

    Thanks  Hairy

     Hi hairy coo

What OS are you running? Vista or XP? If it is Vista and you try to install imagemanager you need to do it from the "real" admin account.

    Check my post here

If it is XP I dont know why you cant install it there. I had no problem installing it in XP.

    Thanks for the reply,Sukarof.

Yes,I'm running XP and it seems to be an installer issue.

Logic would indicate if there was an uninstaller,a fresh install could be made, but this is probably off the mark
