Issues backing up system partition/disk encrypted with TrueCrypt ?

The new TrueCrypt version 5 supports encryption of the system partition or the entire disk that the system partition is on. Are there any potential issues with SPD when backing up partitions encrypted with TrueCrypt ?

You can use ShadowProtect to backup a system on which a full-disk encryption product (with pre-boot code in the MBR) is in use.

Please read through this thread for relevant information on this topic.

    Hi Nate,

The link to that thread is not working.  I posted the following subject yesterday:

Full-Disk Encryption Hard Drive - Creating a Backup Image?

I recently purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad Notebook (T61p Mobile Workstation).  The hard drive installed in the notebook is a (ThinkPad 200GB - Full Disk Encryption Security - 7200 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive).  I also purchased an additional full disk encryption hard drive (same model as above) to be used in the (ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter), which will be use for image backups, data backups, etc.

Is there anything I need to be aware of when creating a backup image of a full-disk encryption hard drive and storing it on another hard drive which is also full-disk encrypted?

    Any advise is appreciated.

I am unable to backup and restore my encrypted drive. I am using Securstar Drivecrypt Plus 3.9. It backs up fine using the CD but it errors out running under the OS. I have tried it with many different parameters but when I restore and reboot. I get a message that it can't read the disk.

If you backup an encrypted volume from within the booted recovery CD environment, then at restore time you MUST restore the backed up MBR AND hidden track sectors, otherwise the OS will not boot.
