    Incremental performance

I am evaluation the Desktop product.  I have a question about the performance of the incremental backup.  My first full backup took about an hour and fifteen minutes.  The incremental I executed right after that took about 45-50 minutes.  The incremental was faster but not as much as I had hoped.  Is this a typical example of the performance of an incremental backup?

    Thanks!

    Re: Incremental performance

If your incrementals are taking that long, then it is not doing sector tracking and it is probably using Microsoft's volsnap.sys to take the initial snapshot.  This may happen because our snapshot/sector tracking driver, stcvsm.sys, is not loaded.  This generally happens for two reasons, a driver conflict, or the backup job was created and executed immediately after install, but before the reboot.

I would first delete the job, reboot and then recreate the job and see if this issue goes away.  if it does not, then please send your log files to support@storagecraft.com.  They can be found in c:\program files\storagecraft\shadowprotect\logs\

Also, from a Storagecraft KB Article:

"First check that the ShadowProtect snaphot service is installed and running. To do this, run 'services.msc' and look for a service called 'StorageCraft Shadow Copy Provider'. If it is not found, or not running, re-run the ShadowProtect installation in Repair mode. If all components are installed and running, a reboot may correct the problem."
