    VSS stops on it's own.

I'm running XP Pro, have had SP Desktop on it since last summer.  GREATEST PRODUCT IN THE WORLD !   (you can quote me, hehe).

I have it send me emails about backup successes and occasionally a failure (yeah.  The computer I work on every day sends me an email. !)

When I check it out, the Volume Shadow Copy service is stopped.  It's set to Automatic.   Funny thing is,  when I look at the SP Backup history,

the C: drive does fine, but the D: drive fails because VSC is stopped.  I am looking at:  (condensed)

    4/23 C: Completed

    4/23 D: Failed

    4/24 C: Completed

4/24 D: Failed.      Both times citing VSS not started.

So, why does C: work and D: doesn't ?   These are two partitions on the same drive, and doesn't VSS affect the whole operating system?

    What's up?

When I restart VSC service, it works fine.

    Why is this?

Please check your system event logs for any relevant erros.  They may help us to diagnose this issue.  VSS is a mighty complex beast and there are many possible causes for such an issue.  More info is the key.
