Drive Letters swapped in Backup Wizard (v3.2 CD)

I just finished building an HP DL380 G5 with the SmartArray P400 controller and SBS 2003 R2 and was going to back it up using the v3.2 CD. However, when I booted the CD (tried both recovery modes) the ShadowProtect Backup Wizard is swapping my drive letters.

For instance, Windows disk management is showing my drive letters correctly like so:

    Disk 0 (Raid1) = C: and D:

    Disk 1 (Raid1) =  E: and F:

    Disk 2 (Raid10) = G: and H:

But the ShadowProtect bootable Backup Wizard shows them this way:

    Disk 0 = C: and F:

    Disk 1 = D: and G:

    Disk 2 = E: and H:

I've attached a screenshot of what the wizard is showing me. (FYI: I can take screenshots of the recovery CD because I'm using HP's integrated lights out console).

The only thing I can think of is that I created the D: partition long after I created the others. Formerly the CD-ROM was using D:, so I used Windows disk management to change the CD-ROM drive letter to Z: and then formatted the D: partition. Also, I used diskpart.exe to create all the partitions if that helps. Finally, ShadowProtect is not installed in Windows yet if that matters.

Am I just missing something obvious? I tried searching the forums but couldn't come up with any solutions. Thanks in advance.

Just ignore the drive letters that are used by the booted CD recovery environment.  Those drive letters are temporary and are only assigned and used during the boot session of the recovery environment.  The recovery environment doesn't know which driver letters were assigned by your installed operating system(s) and so it temporarily assigns drive letters on its own (WinPE itself does this, actually).

That's a relief to know. Thanks!

Yeah, the drive letters are just names. What's in a name, would a rose by any other name smell as sweet?

As long as the disks themselves are correct (disk 0 etc) you'll be fine. You can tell which ones are which by looking at the drive size information. ;)
