    Event Driven Incrementals

    Hi,
Our in-house usage and our clients see the need to enalbe an incremental backup to be triggered by a shutdown on desktops and laptops.

No matter what Backup schedule policy I introduce to my clients, there is always a window during which vital files that are updated at the close of business or just prior to the laptop leaving the office (both of which can occur at un-predictable times) when these vital files will not be backed up.
Particularly in the case of a laptop, vital files leaving the office without a backup is some what scary and a bad policy.
It is not feasible to ask a user to open up ShadowProtect and do a "run now" backup - it just won't happen.

Waiting for the laptop to return to the office or the desktop to be restarted and  ShadowProtect to catch up on missed scheduled incrementls is also tempting fate - some laptops don't come back to the office and HDD fail on shutdown/startup.

Appreciate your feedback and trust that this potential to lose vital files can be quickly resolved.

    Many thanks

    John

    Re: Event Driven Incrementals

Well, not many options except work around it by have users use roaming profiles with CSC (client side caching) or teach them how to use SP for backups.

This would be another use case for single click backup... but no specs available to make that happen... (see other thread about cmd line SP use).

Jack of many trades, master of none.
