Can not do backup - Server crashes

When trying to do backup - server crashes after about one hour. (We use Shadow Protect 3.1.0.3 on Win2003 Server 32bit)

I was advised to remove snapsys.dll from Acronis, but we did not use this software.

    So I have two ideas:

    1) I think that I can try to prepare SQL 2000 for backup, may be this helps. Does Shadow Protect has universal script that prepare custom (third party) application(s) to back up state?   or it should be unique script for every application taken from their vendor?

     2) Where I can find a switch that allow me to select between Shadows Protect VSS driver and Microsoft (original) VSS driver? There is no option in advance menu while doing backup  wizard setting.

Define "crashes" please, like "wedges", reboots, BSOD and reboot? Any crash messages in system event log? Did you memtest the server recently for bad RAM? Crash after "an hour" does not sound like Acronis bad driver interaction but more like hardware trouble. SP is taxing CPU and memory because it is using what's there to get the data compressed fast and also fast away onto backup destination. Messing with SQL2K even if it doesn't support VSS is of no use in my view, same with trying to chose a different VSS provider.
Jack of many trades, master of none.

Under crashes I meant BSOD (and then auto reboot). Unfortunately we need to use slq2k due requirement of web based software we used.

I found workaround, I wrote a script that shut down sql services (sql services, sql vss provider) before SP starts and start services again after image was written. With this implemented, SP manage to complete backup successfully. I test this for a while and hope there will be no more BSOD screens.
