Can Not Restore -- Error: Can Not Find File (Though File Shows In Directory)

I made a backup image of the main drive on this "WarMachine" computer to my WD MyBook 2TB external drive (connected through USB).  The backup worked fine.  The restore did not.  I can navigate to the file and select it -- but, during the restoration process it fails saying it can not find the file.  See the log below.  I just found some forum postings from February that indicate that there is a problem with ShadowProtect Desktop and the Wester Digital MyBook external drives.  That's really bad news since I just bought four SPD licenses to backup my home computers... :(  Suggestions please...

Re: Can Not Restore -- Error: Can Not Find File (Though File Shows In Directory)

Try doing a file verify.  The issue posted is not with ShadowProtect and the WD My Book, but rather with certain systems, the My Book and large files.

According to the log file, the file system returns an error after reading about 500 MB's.  Does the error occur at the same point each time?  The offset of the file failure is 1e400000  = 507510784 bytes = 484 MB.

Try copying the backup image file to a temporary file location to see if you get similar errors outside of ShadowProtect.  This might help isolate the issue.

Re: Can Not Restore -- Error: Can Not Find File (Though File Shows In Directory)

The backup image verification was good.  I moved the file to another external hard drive -- a Seagate Barracuda with NexStar 3 external enclosure.  I connected this drive to the WarMachine computer through USB also.  I had no read errors this time and was eventually able to restore the image.  I was surprised that even though I was just putting it on a new drive in the same computer, I couldn't get it to work until it did the Hardware Indenpendent Recovery (HIR) option during recovery.  Before this it would try to reboot and then hang up on the Windows screen just before it shows the user accounts to log into (WinXP OS on this machine).

The lingering problem I have is with internet access and reactivating Windows XP.  Can someone tell me after moving an image to a new hard drive in the same computer what all still has to be tweaked.  I'm running Norton Antivirus and wonder if their copy protection scheme might have issues with showing up on a new hard drive.  For that matter, what other applications might have this issue?  Thanks,

    Valin
