When I try to make a backup my system reboots!

I bought a copy of SP Desktop a few months ago but never had to use it on my old pc.

I just put together my first pc from scratch and installed SP from the disk sent to me from Storagecraft when I bought the program.

I was able to make the first backup to a different partition with no problem that I can remeber.

But I haven't been able to make any other backups since then.

When I look at the program interface after a failed backup, it only shows that I had tried to make the backup. It also show that the job had never initialized even though I sat here and watched it do it's thing.

Everytime I try to do a manual differential backup SP works for a few minutes and either does not make the backup or it reboots my pc.

Last night I finally had to removes SP from the pc.

I use Windows XP Pro sp3 on an Asus motherboard with an Intel cpu.

    Other programs are working ok.

I hope you can help with this as I really do need to be able to backup my wife's work.

    My skill level is novie.

    Thanks.

    jrspie,

The most common reason for reboots during backups is Acronis's snapshot driver.  Do you have (or have you ever had) TrueImage installed?

Jobs that are just stopping are unusual though.  You may want to email your log files to support@storagecraft.com along with a description of what has been happening and when.  Note: your logs are located at "C:\Program Files\StorageCraft\ShadowProtect\Logs\".

     Kevin,

This was a clean install on a virgin hard drive. First time for installing this particulat copy of xp pro.

True Image has never been on this new pc.

However, I did have Acronis Drive Imager -possibly Disk Director-but I uninstalled it.

I also have noted that just at the moment of the crash/reboot, I hear a click in the pc. This could simply be the completion of a circuit clsoing or opening.

    Just thought I'd mention it.

There are no log files left on my pc as they were erased when I uninstalled SP.

I requested help from SP support but have not yet heard from them.

    Thanks.

I believe Disk Director (maybe drive imager as well) does use snapman.sys, so this could be the cause.  With TrueImage, Acronis's snapshot driver is not always removed from the system when the software is uninstalled, so it's possible the same thing happens with their other products.  Here are some instructions for removing snapman.sys manually:

    http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/kb/articles/576/

Give it a try and see if the registry keys menioned are present on your system.
