• single to multi-processor migrations

Hi all, Can anyone shed some light on single to multi-processor migprations using Server Ed.? I have a vmware guest, a single processor MS Win2003 Terminal Server, which is suffering from CPU overuse. I'd like to migrate this guest to a 2-processor guest. I was hoping to do this using ShadowProtect...
and one for the backup that SBS performs
Are you performing a regular, SBS backup to another VHD within the same VM, or are you just saving the SBS system state? If you turn off the SBS backup, and restart the VM, do you still have problems when running the SP backup...

Yeah, that's strange. You enabled VSS in the SBS VM? (It's disabled by default).
I go to the Event Viewer (on the host) (Applications and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Hyper-V Hypervisor) and there is an error: Event id 8451: Hyper-V failed creating a new partition...

  • Re: Incremental backup = Disk damaged

Yeah, I know it seems like an odd conclusion, but there were two things that made me think it might be connected: Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: ASR writer Error 0x80070002 . Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The I/O writes cannot be flushed during the shadow copy creation period on volume \\?\Volume...

  • Re: Hyper-V goes into saved state

Costas You can use mountvol to list the mappings between Windows drive letter assignments and volume GUIDs. Just enter the command on the command line. Mount points with no drive letter assignment are also listed. The drive letter mapping and volume GUIDs are also listed in the registry under DosDevices...
I did have it setup to use the Hyper-v. The drawback, as I see it, is I have to have a vm machine setup and ready and then I have to restore to it.
That should not be much of an issue. It'll take a couple of minutes to define a generic couple of VMs that...
1 - I see a technote that explains importing a Storage protect backup into VMWare using the converter. Will Storage Protect work in a simliar fashion with Windows 2008 Hyper-V? I guess meaning - will it import into a Hyper-V environment?
As mentioned above, you...

  • Re: Hyper-V Saved State

Which OSs are you running in the VMs? If you are running Windows in the VMs (post XP) then you need to make sure that they have the VSS framework up and running ok. The Hyper-V VSS Writer can then ensure you get a snapshot of those VMs cleanly using SP (with "Use VSS" option enabled). From...

  • Re: HIR Restore Vista X64 to VMWARE Workstation 6.5

That's odd. You normally want the SP HIR restore to take care of the HAL, replacing it if required. I'm assuming that the original workstation had more than one CPU and you configured the VM with the maximum 2 CPUs? In that case, you'd expect the SP HIR process to leave the original multi...
