• Re: another question

This has been posted and answered soooo many times before. Anyway, one more time...... You can use ImageManager to verify multiples times using a schedule. However, there are a whole host of reasons why running a verify immediately after a backup is not a good use of your time. You can do it, but it's...

  • Re: non-fatal I/O error - how long to wait?

There are a couple of other things you can try if you can't afford to wait. 1) Stop the backup and run chkdsk on its own (without the /r or /f) option) That will give you an idea of the extent of the problems with the disk. If not too bad, then you can run the chkdsk fix/repair option. Then attempt...

  • Re: Unable to successfully backup laptop via USB portable drive
If it is the hardware, OK.... I just wish SP would identify the problem earlier. The backup process takes about an hour before the first error message appears.
Unfortunately, there is no way for ShadowProtect to "know" there is a problem with a disk...

  • Re: Subsequent slow performance in Vista to NAS

Hi Richard I think you have two issues here. The first is there seems to be some kind of problem/corruption with the source drive. The second is that the ShadowProtect VDIFF tracking is stopping for some reason. It does not look like a problem with the network, so no need for Wireshark. So lets look...

  • Re: chkdsk errors in MFT and Volume Bitmap - bug in chkdsk?

This may just be the usual WinXP chkdsk error. Are you running chkdsk from the system when it is booted? or on reboot, before windows loads? This is important, because WinXP is known to have issues where on an active NTFS file system, chkdsk can report errors in the volume bitmap and the MFT without...

  • Re: chkdsk errors in MFT and Volume Bitmap - bug in chkdsk?

Something you might try is downloading a different HDD diagnostic tool. There are a variety of diagnostic tools available from various hard drive manufacturers. I would recommend finding out the manufacturer of the hard drive in question and downloading the diagnostic tool from them. If you get a similar...

  • chkdsk errors in MFT and Volume Bitmap - bug in chkdsk?

Hi, After performing a full backup and restore of my C: (Windows XP OS) drive, I ran chkdsk to see if there were any problems. I keep getting the following error when running chkdsk (3 times in a row now): "CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the master file table (MFT) bitmap. Correcting...

  • Re: newbie questions on verifying backups

If I understand you correctly, SP fails to backup to the USB drive from Windows, but is sucessful in backing up to that same drive while in the recovery enviroment. In that case there must be some sort of issue accessing this drive from an active system. What kind of USB drive are you backing up to?...

  • Re: Question on Verify Operation
Is this a verify in the sense that each sector of the backup image is compared with its corresponding sector on the source image (i.e. similar to the old DOS copy command "/V" switch)?
I think I saw you post on another thread, but I did not get chance...

  • Re: Restore Options are Confusing... and Forum Recommendations May Be Misleading

Ok, I'm back. Restoring to a single disk is not going to help. The RAID is not the issue. The "rundll32.exe" issue is, I think in part a problem with the registry setting, and potential a corruption in the filesystem. While I check into the registrry problem, I'd suggest you run chkdsk...
